Standing at Black Sabbath Bridge in Birmingham after the heroically epic send-off of heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne to the energetic ether fields far beyond, I was reading some of the adoring notes left by ardent fans expressing their forever love for the gifted musical storyteller. People from all over the world journeyed to pay their respects, and the energy felt on Broad Street was so powerful it transcended into the spiritual. It was clear how many people—not just there in that moment, but all around the world watching live from their homes and offices—had been inspired or electrified by the music he left behind."
The stories he told, resonating through the people cheering and singing, reverberated on the street that day and will for many more days to come. In fact, every time hereafter one of his songs starts to play, the power of his creation will once again electrify the space, and it will be as though he is still here.
The same can be said for other iconic creators who left before him—Michael Jackson, Maya Angelou, Shakespeare, Mozart, Frida Kahlo. While their mortal bodies may have returned to dust, their spirit lives on. We feel their essence every time we interact with their creations. We read their books, we listen to their music, we study their art, and we learn from them—about the world, each other, ourselves.
No matter the medium, the artist leaves an imprint of themselves in their work. That’s why when we interact with it, we feel as though we know the artist—because we feel them. It's the connection between artist and audience, expressed through any chosen medium, that creates a permanent energetic frequency. One that transcends time, place, culture, community, sex, race—it really doesn’t matter because we’re all just souls in training anyway--and that’s the power of creation.
It’s not about the artist as much as it is about people, their raw emotion, and that timeless desire for connection and resonance.
